The Outstanding First Year Advocate Award recognizes ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ community members who have made a positive impact on the first-year experience. The award allows the first-year students to nominate and recognize individuals who have demonstrated a specific commitment to and impact on first-year student transition, learning, development and success.
Each year, First Year Experience selects two faculty members, two staff/administrators, and two upper-class student leaders for this honor from a large number of nominations submitted.
This year's honorees have not only supported first-year students in their transition, but they have also done so during unprecedented times. The quality of the nominations received this year was exceedingly high, as first-year students truly appreciate the efforts made to guide and mentor them on their journey.
The recipients of the 2021 Outstanding First Year Advocate Awards are:
- David Gow: Professor, Psychology
- Fatema Nafa: Assistant Professor, Computer Science
- Emily Bradley: Counselor, Disability Services
- Cynthia Lynch: Executive Director, Center for Civic Engagement
- Abigail Glidden: Program Coordinator, First Year Experience
