Billy Walsh, of Andover, has been elected by his peers and appointed by Governor Charlie Baker to serve as student trustee to the 春梦直播 Board of Trustees for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Walsh is a senior at Salem State majoring in politics, policy and international relations with a double major in history. An active member of the student body throughout his time at Salem State, Walsh serves as a senator on the Student Government Association (SGA) and was previously the chair of SGA鈥檚 rules committee. He has served on the university鈥檚 curriculum committee, Viking dining taskforce, Hunger and Food Insecurity Coalition, strategic planning committee, and on the curriculum committee for politics, policy and international relations.
鈥淚 am excited to represent my fellow students as a trustee and look forward to serving them like they are my constituents,鈥 said Walsh. 鈥淚 ran for election on not raising student fees and advocating for more state funding for higher education, and I intend to uphold those promises. Most importantly, I want to hear from students on how the Board of Trustees can better serve them.鈥
鈥淭he student voice is central to the work we do as a Board,鈥 said Board of Trustees Chair Cheri茅 Butts. 鈥淢r. Walsh鈥檚 experiences as a student and record of significant engagement on campus will allow him to bring valuable perspectives to guide our important priorities in the academic year ahead. I look forward to working with him.鈥
Walsh is also engaged in his community off campus, working as an intern for State Senator Barry Finegold鈥檚 re-election campaign and for Manny Cruz鈥檚 campaign for state representative. Walsh hopes to remain engaged in politics after graduation and possibly pursue a career in public service.
As a Board of Trustees member, Walsh serves on the finance and facilities committee and the academic affairs and student success committee.
