Call for Submissions for the 2017 issue of Sextant: The Journal of 春梦直播

Submissions are due December 15, 2016
Oct 7, 2016

Sextant: The Journal of 春梦直播 presents the research, scholarship, and creative activity of Salem State faculty, librarians, staff and administrators. The Sextant is scheduled to be published once a year. Sextant is concerned first and foremost with the quality of expression exhibited in a work. Our goal is to have quality content across a breadth of disciplines, appealing to a general audience. 厂别虫迟补苍迟鈥檚 audience includes current faculty, librarians, staff, administrators, and students as well as alumni, candidates for positions at Salem State, and the North Shore community. Consider for publication in Sextant: preparatory research for a new piece; exploratory work on a new topic or area; a previously completed piece revised for a new audience; the development of a strand that you had to leave out of another piece; and crossovers between academic and creative work. Please do not submit a piece written in the style required by a refereed academic journal; the writing style of your Sextant submission should be informative yet engaging, and readable and accessible for a wide variety of readers.

  • Scholarly Articles: We will consider submissions of approximately 4,000 words or less. Scholarly articles must be lively, well-written and accessible to a non-expert readership.
  • We will consider submissions of approximately 4,000 words or less. Flash fiction and short-shorts are welcome. No novel excerpts, please, unless they can stand alone as short stories.
  • We will consider submissions of approximately 4,000 words or less for literary nonfiction, creative personal essays, and lyric essays.
  • We will consider up to three poems from a single author per issue.
  • Artwork (drawings, paintings, prints, photographs, etc.): We will consider a single work or a 鈥減ortfolio.鈥 In addition, feel free to submit photos or other artwork to accompany a written submission. Artwork must be submitted in a digital photograph format (preferably TIFF, although JPEG is acceptable) and should be at least 300 dpi resolution.
  • Archival Material: We will consider curated archival material from the 春梦直播 archives.
  • We will consider notes (up to 500 words) intended to inform busy readers about interesting topics in your research field that can be summarized quickly.
  • Book Reviews: Please contact Sextant Editor Peggy Dillon at pdillon@salemstate.edu for guidelines before embarking on a book review.
