Faculty Awarded Visiting Professorships in Poland

Feb 27, 2018

Two ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ professors will be traveling to Poland this spring as visiting professors.

English professor Nancy L. Schultz has been invited to be a visiting professor at the Institute of English Studies at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. Jagiellonian University is Poland’s oldest university, and one of the oldest in the world, having been founded in 1364. It has a stellar reputation as world-class research university. Schultz will be teaching two institute-style courses, one in mid-March, on the Salem Witch Trials, and one in early June, on Harriet Beecher Stowe, Race, and Slavery. In addition to teaching these classes, she will give two lectures on her course topics in Krakow that are open to the public.

In March, Melanie Gonzalez (education) will be visiting Lublin, Poland on a grant through the 2018 ERASMUS Plus Programme. Professor Gonzalez was awarded a visiting lectureship at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) in Lublin, Poland. There she will deliver four workshops focused on the linguistic principle of 'lexicogrammar' to students and faculty at the KUL's Department of English Studies.

Lexicogrammar is the term ascribed to the interdependent relationship between vocabulary and grammar, and Melanie's workshops intend to specifically address how this relationship can be exploited for the teaching and learning of English as a second or foreign language. Participants will also reflect on this content to enrich both KUL’s and ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥'s own understanding of language teaching and learning.
