First Annual Constitution Day Essay Contest

The Center for Civic Engagement and the American Democracy Project are accepting entries that address the following essay topic:

"How would you define the American Dream and what role, if any, does the Constitution

play in fulfilling it?"

Essays should be between 750-1000 words and must be submitted to by Monday, September 28 at 5 pm.

Essays will be read by a panel of faculty, staff and administrators from across the university and will be judged according to the following criteria:

  • Originality and creativity-20 points
  • Depth of content-25 points
  • Connection to essay topic-30 points
  • Organization and writing -25 points

Winners will be announced on Monday, October 5 between 11:30 am -12:30 pm in the MLK room in the Ellison Campus Center.

$100 prizes will be awarded to the first place essay for the following groups:

  • First year student
  • Returning student/transfer student
  • Graduate student
