Further Details, Week of March 23

Mar 13, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

Many thanks to all of you for coming together to help us all manage the current coronavirus situation. I appreciate your understanding as we seek to respond to an ever-shifting landscape.

Several faculty members have asked questions about what it means for the university to not be holding classes during the week of March 23. In an effort to address such questions, I offer the following additional information.

The only activities currently cancelled from March 23 to March 29 are:

  1. classes (day, CE, grad both in person and online); and
  2. meetings involving over 25 people in the same room (per the Governor).

All other activities on the schedule for the week, provided that they do not involve convening more than 25 people in the same room, should proceed as normal.

As classes won’t be in session for the week, faculty are encouraged to:

  1. participate in any workshops being offered during Monday and Tuesday; and
  2. spend the balance of the week making course adjustments, with an understanding that we may be moving instruction online beginning on Monday, March 30.

The classes missed during the week of March 23 will not be made up at a later date. As such, each faculty member should adjust her/his/their course syllabuses as she/he/they see(s) fit. This item applies to classes in all divisions: day, CE, and grad.

At this time, the end of the semester schedule will remain unchanged:

  • Classes End (Day School Courses): May 1
  • Reading Day: May 4
  • Final Examinations (Day School Courses): May 5-12
  • Classes End Full Semester (CPS/G*): May 7
  • Spring II Classes End (CPS/G*): May 8
  • Final Exam Make-up Day (Day School): May 13

*CPS/G: College of Continuing and Professional Studies and School of Graduate Studies

During the weeks of March 16 and 23, facilities will be deep cleaning and disinfecting all classrooms and office spaces. Please clear as much of your desk space and other surfaces as you can so that facilities will be able to disinfect as thoroughly as possible.

In closing, I want to reiterate my gratitude for your continued engagement and flexibility as we negotiate the current situation. I appreciate your willingness to adapt to the circumstances we confront as a community.

Appreciatively,

David J. Silva, Ph.D.

Provost and Academic Vice President
