Marcos Luna (geography and sustainability) was honored with the on Friday, October 25, 2024, in a ceremony held at the State House in Boston. Luna was nominated by Massachusetts State Representative Adrian Madaro (1st Suffolk) for his research and advocacy to promote environmental justice. Luna's mapping and analysis were pivotal to the drafting and passage of the Commonwealth's first environmental justice law.
The ‘Black Excellence on the Hill’ and the 'Latino Excellence Awards' are annual events hosted by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus to commemorate Black and Latino Community leaders and trailblazers who are moving the needle forward in cities and towns across the Commonwealth.
Marcos Luna is a professor of geography and sustainability and the coordinator of the graduate Geo-Information Science program at ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥. He is a governor-appointed member of the and an appointed member of the . He serves on the boards of directors of , a community-based environmental justice organization serving Chelsea, East Boston and surrounding communities, and of , which seeks to create permanent affordable housing solutions for low income and immigrant families in Chelsea.
