Marion Frost DNP ’91, ’97G Receives 2024 Dr. Marilyn E. Flaherty ’54 Distinguished Graduate Award

Marion Frost DNP ’91, ’97G, of Amesbury, has been named the 2024 recipient of the Dr. Marilyn E. Flaherty ’54 Distinguished Graduate Award. Established by the ֱ Alumni Association and Foundation, Inc., the award recognizes distinguished alumni for their outstanding professional accomplishments.

For 20 years, Frost has been an integral member of Salem State’s School of Nursing. Initially joining the department in 2004 as an instructor, she was promoted to assistant professor in 2013, associate professor in 2014, and is currently a full professor and chairperson of the School of Nursing.

Before working for Salem State, she started her career in 1991 as a registered nurse for Beverly Hospital, and she worked for Kindred Healthcare and as a charge nurse for Brigham Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation, among others.

“I am grateful that the ֱ Alumni Association and Foundation chose to honor me with this award,” Frost said. “As one of the largest nursing programs in the state, Salem State’s School of Nursing is a vital part of the community, with our graduates positively impacting health organizations across the region. It is a privilege to foster our student nurses’ professional development through our amazing program.”

Frost is a double Viking, earning her bachelor's degree in 1991 and master’s degree in 1997 and has held numerous positions in the School of Nursing including ABSN and post licensure program coordinator, accreditation and regulatory coordinator and undergraduate program coordinator. In 2013, she received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Regis College. Her professional research primarily focuses on nurses' well-being and best practices for nursing course design.

“Marion’s impact is immeasurable and longstanding,” Associate Director of Alumni Relations Mike Mitchell ’07 said. “She has been a critical component of the School of Nursing for two decades, acting as a staunch advocate for student success and their professional growth. We are honored to present her with this award.”
