Mass DCR Leadership Fellowship

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, in partnership with the ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ Recreation, Outdoor and Event Management concentration, is proud to announce the the 2nd year of the DCR Leadership Fellowship program in Summer 2024. Over the course of a paid 12 week-internship, university students from across the commonwealth will work with leaders throughout the DCR to gain hands-on training and exposure to all aspects of conservation and recreation management including but not limited to forestry, fire management, project design, engineering, interpretation, rules education and park operations. Participants will explore the impacts of climate change on the properties DCR stewards and participate in discussions to best address potential impacts for future stewardship. The program will foster leadership skills and provide career development opportunities. There are both for credit and non-credit options available for students. Students may come from a variety of backgrounds and degree programs.

Benefits of participation:

Flexible location including field placement

Two days per week work from home; two days per week in the field; one day leadership seminars

Pay is $21/hour (37.5 hours per week)

Some travel is reimbursed

Weekly leadership development seminars

Insight into working with our state’s largest conservation and recreation agency

Development of an understanding of issues facing Massachusetts’ environment and applied experiences in helping provide solutions to these issues

Networking opportunities with state officials

 

Requirements:  Junior standing with 60 credits. GPA of 2.5 or above.  Desire to learn about Massachusetts’ environmental challenges and to make a difference.

Students may select a non-credit or for credit option depending upon their needs
