Message from Board of Trustees Chair Paul Mattera

May 4, 2017

Dear members of the campus community,

I want to publicly offer my deep appreciation to the Presidential Search Committee for their great work in providing us with the slate of finalists for the next president of ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥. This Committee was chaired by Trustee Teri Chisholm and the vice chair was Trustee Rob Lutts. The membership included Tyrone Brown '08, Customer Support Agent, ITS (AFSCME) & Alumnus; Elizabeth Cabral '17, Student Trustee; Joseph Cambone, Dean, School of Education (Non-unit); Elisa Castillo, Assistant Dean, Wellness, Student Life (APA); Gina Deschamps ‘92G, President, SSU Foundation, Alumna, & Business Leader; Donna Hills, Associate Professor, Nursing, College of Health and Human Services (MSCA); Miranda Lam, Chair, Accounting and Finance, Bertolon School of Business (MSCA); Oscar Malcolm, Trustee; Dena Papanikolaou, General Counsel, Department of Higher Education; Peter Walker, Professor, English, College of Arts and Sciences (MSCA); and Mark Quigley, Assistant Vice President, Human Resources and Equal Opportunity; Affirmative Action Officer, non-voting. I also served ex-officio.

The Committee began its work in January by developing a prospectus that would provide potential candidates with information about the successes and future plan for our university. They carefully reviewed candidates’ applications and conducted interviews, yielding the impressive slate that was shared with you earlier today. Their efforts required many, many hours of review, conversation, and deliberation. Each member took on this highly confidential assignment committed to identifying the best candidates for our community. Please join me in thanking them for all of their efforts.

I would also like to thank Lynne Montague, secretary to the Board; Katie Sadowski, assistant secretary to the Board; and Nicole Giambusso, director of public relations for their administrative assistance with this process. They made the work run smoothly and assured that the campus community was kept informed about our progress. We could not have done it without them.

Finally, I would like to add special thanks to President Meservey who, while not directly involved in the search process, has provided important resources and invaluable insights to me and to the committee.

We are now in the final stages of the search and recruitment of our next president. Your participation in next week’s interviews are critically important to the selection process. Please meet and engage each finalist at the venues provided and submit your input.

Regards,

Paul Mattera

Chair, ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ Board of Trustees
