Newly Tenured and Promoted Faculty Honored for Their Commitment to Excellence

27 Faculty Earned Tenure and/or Promotions
Jul 11, 2017

The Salem State Academic Affairs and Student Life Committee has announced their yearly recommendations for promotion and tenure of faculty members. All appointments were approved by President Patricia Maguire Meservey and the Salem State Board of Trustees.

Assistant professors are evaluated for tenure in their sixth year of service, whereas associate professors and professors are evaluated for tenure in their third year of service. They must undergo the evaluation process which requires them to submit a portfolio, and they are evaluated by their department chair, a peer evaluation committee, the Committee on Tenure, their dean (if assigned), the provost and the president. Promotion follows the same process and criteria for evaluation being evaluated by the Committee on Promotions in place of the Committee on Tenure.

鈥淐elebrating the newly promoted and tenured faculty is something I look forward to every year. Recognizing their achievements is how we show our appreciation for all they do for our students and institution,鈥 said David Silva, provost and academic vice president.

These honored faculty members were invited to a private reception at the home of President Patricia Maguire Meservey and her husband Rick.

鈥淪alem State鈥檚 faculty has a commitment to excellence which is evident in the amazing work they do both inside and outside the classroom. We have a terrific faculty that are trailblazers in their field, conducting research and changing the lives of our students,鈥 President Meservey said.
