In celebration of spring's arrival, we asked Salem State’s sport and movement science faculty to share some of their favorite outdoor spots within an easy drive of campus.
“A great hour-long hike nearby, bordering Wenham Lake. The hikers are always friendly.”
“Beautiful no matter what the season.”
“Goes for miles along the beach and the dunes. On occasion, you can see snowy owls on the dunes as well.”
and
“Miles of trails to walk, run, bike, cross-country ski or snowshoe. A lovely place to contemplate nature.”
Forest River Park, Salem
“There’s a marvelous spot in the park, next to the pool above the beach, with a view to the harbor and ocean. It’s perfect for our year-round outdoor exercises as part of holistic and experimental fitness classes. It’s open to fresh ocean breezes and sun, partly shaded by big old trees.”
“One of the greatest local resources for getting into the woods, with miles of clearly marked trails and several unique resources such as Stone Tower and Dungeon Rock. It’s ideal for hiking, biking, horseback riding, dog-walking, etc.”
Running Clubs
in Salem pulls the running community together for weekly runs. Notch Brewing has weekly training runs finishing downtown as well.
