Salem State Faculty Study School Counselors' Perceptions of Nursing as a Career

Cheryl Williams of the School of Nursing and Laurie Dickstein-Fischer of the School of Education (school counseling) published results of a regional study examining school counselors’ perceptions of nursing as a health career choice. The article, “A call for future nurses: School counselors’ perceptions of the nursing role,” was published in the . Among their findings, many school counselors lack important information regarding secondary educational preparation for middle and high school students interested in nursing. As a result, stronger collaborations between nursing educators and counselors are needed. Their national study was also accepted for publication in the Nurse Educator.
