Why did you choose Salem State, and what’s one thing a prospective student should know about the campus community?
I was mainly looking for a school with a rink on campus for athletics. A prospective student should know Salem State has a close-knit campus community—everyone knows and recognizes each other.
Once you got to campus, what made you say, "This is the place for me?"
Seeing how connected the campus community was and how easy it was to form relationships made me feel like I belonged here.
What made you choose your major?
I’ve always been intrigued by wildlife and knew biology was the right path for me.
Do you live on campus or commute?
I’m technically a commuter, but I live right across the street from Salem State’s O’Keefe Sports Complex. I spend a lot of time off campus, but I always enjoy spending time with my team every day.
How have you grown as a person during your college experience?
I’ve become much more self-sufficient and have learned to how push myself academically to continue achieving great things.
Can you describe a challenge you overcame at Salem State?
After being away from school for a while, playing junior hockey, returning to academics was challenging. I had to shift my mindset—it wasn’t just about hockey anymore. I had to focus on doing well in my classes, too.
Have any faculty relationships influenced your learning or personal growth?
Definitely, I worked as a student employee and got to know a lot of faculty and staff across campus, especially in athletics. I also built strong relationships with my professors. These connections motivated me and made my college experience truly enjoyable.
How has Salem State supported your academic journey in terms of value and accessibility?
Salem State values education and student success. The professors genuinely want to see you do well. I received plenty of support through tutoring and one-on-one help, which made a big difference.
Can you share a hands-on learning experience you’ve had?
I haven’t yet applied classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, but my time in the program has prepared me to do so after graduation.
What are your post-graduation plans, and how has Salem State prepared you?
I plan to find a job in my field, and Salem State has helped me stay focused within my major and build toward that goal.
