Why did you choose Salem State, and what’s one thing a prospective student should know about the campus community?
I chose Salem State because it allowed me to continue playing the two sports I love while studying the major I’m passionate about. It felt like the right place to grow both athletically and academically. One thing that stands out about Salem State is the strong sense of community and support. Professors are approachable and offer one-on-one time, and the sports community is incredibly tight-knit and encouraging.

Once you got to campus, what made you say, "This is the place for me?"
As soon as I arrived, I felt like I had finally found the college experience I was looking for. The welcoming, close-knit community of peers, athletes, and professors made it easy to feel at home. Plus, the location is a huge bonus—there’s always something to do in Salem, whether you’re downtown or hanging out on campus.

What made you choose your major?
I’ve always wanted to make a meaningful impact by helping others when they need it most. Nursing gives me the chance to care for people, support them during difficult times, and truly make a difference in their lives. It’s always felt like a calling.

Do you live on campus or commute?
I’ve lived off campus since my sophomore year. For two years, I lived in what we called the “soccer house” with a few of my teammates. It helped me stay connected to my team and the campus community.

How have you grown as a person during your college experience?
College has been where I’ve learned the most about myself. Being far from home pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. I’ve learned how to face challenges on my own, grown more confident and independent, and discovered what I’m capable of—both academically and personally.

Can you describe a challenge you overcame at Salem State?
My first semester was the hardest. Coming from a small town in Vermont, adjusting to life in a city and being far from home was overwhelming at first. It took time to settle in, but eventually I found my rhythm and learned how to thrive in this new environment.

Have any faculty relationships influenced your learning or personal growth?
All my professors have made a meaningful impact. They genuinely care about their students and always make themselves available outside of class. Many have even taken an interest in my athletic journey, checking in on how my teams are doing. It’s clear they care about us as individuals, not just students.

How has Salem State supported your academic journey in terms of value and accessibility?
Salem State has provided a high-quality education at an affordable price, which was really important to my family and me. I’ve had access to experienced faculty, hands-on learning, and opportunities that have helped me succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Can you share a hands-on learning experience you’ve had?
One of the most valuable experiences has been attending clinicals. The nursing program offers placements at several clinical sites and works around athletic schedules. Being in a hospital setting, interacting with healthcare professionals, and applying classroom knowledge in real time has been an incredible opportunity to grow and gain experience.

What are your post-graduation plans, and how has Salem State prepared you?
My goal is to go to graduate school and become a nurse practitioner. Salem State has helped me take that first big step by preparing me to become a nurse and bringing me closer to achieving my dream.
