Dr. Sharon Emerson-Stonnell, President of Alpha Lambda Delta, announced Sydney Addorisio from 春梦直播 was awarded the Betty Jo Hudson Graduate Fellowship in the award amount of $4,000. Addorisio is from Malden, MA, and was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta in 2019. Addorisio was a previous recipient of Alpha Lambda Delta鈥檚 Trow Undergraduate Scholarship in 2020.
As an undergraduate, Addorisio studied Biology and graduated in 2021. At 春梦直播, she served as the 春梦直播 chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta's Secretary/Historian, then President from 2020-2022. She was also involved as a member of the Honors Program, co-author of a review article for Fine Focus titled 鈥淥xidative Stress Response in Bacteria: A Review,鈥 and is currently serving in a co-op position at Biogen in Gene Therapy Development.
Addorisio will pursue a PhD in Biology at Tufts University. 鈥淎fter completing a PhD, I want to work in the biology/biotechnology industry. As someone who has family members who have been impacted by different ailments, I want to do my part to contribute to any knowledge that may help the members of my family and others who suffer from any ailment, not just the ones I am currently familiar with,鈥 Addorisio stated.
Twenty-eight Graduate Fellowships are given annually by Alpha Lambda Delta to its members from a national pool of competitive applicants. Award amounts range from $2,000 to $7,000 and are used to offset the expense of pursuing graduate or professional studies. The graduate fellowship is for the 2022-23 academic year. Each fellowship is named for a person of significance to Alpha Lambda Delta.
Born in Muncie, Indiana, Betty Jo Hudson received her bachelors and masters degrees from Ball State University and did additional graduate work at the Ohio State University. At Ohio State, she served as Assistant Dean, then Associate Dean of University College from 1972 to 1988 when she became the University Ombudsperson. Betty Jo Hudson served as the thirteenth President of National Alpha Lambda Delta from 1988 to 1991. Prior to becoming President, Ms. Hudson served as District III Adviser from 1982 to 1985. Ms. Hudson died October 4, 2013 in Torch Lake, Michigan.
Alpha Lambda Delta
Alpha Lambda Delta is an honor society that recognizes students鈥 academic success in their first year at a college or university. Founded in 1924 and active on 280 campuses, Alpha Lambda Delta inducts 22,000 members annually and has over 1.3 million lifetime members.
