Update on Advising and Registration

Mar 12, 2020

In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and in keeping with the recommendations of Governor Baker, Salem State is canceling this event and all on-campus activities through the end of the Spring 2020 semester. Read more about Salem State’s response to the outbreak.

Dear Undergraduate (Day) Student,

Salem State is committed to academic continuity as you work toward the successful completion of your bachelor’s degree. Due to the evolving situation with COVID-19 and its impact on the spring advising period, we are making changes to fall 2020 registration for the undergraduate day program.

Faculty should always be your first point of contact for advising. If you have not done so already, please contact your faculty advisor to set up an appointment either in person, by phone or virtually (via zoom, skype, etc.).

However, due to the unique circumstances of COVID-19 and the cancellation of classes during the week of March 23, we recognize that scheduling appointments with your faculty advisor in a timely fashion may be difficult.

In the event that you are unable to meet with your faculty advisor either virtually, via phone or in person, please know that professional advisors in the Center for Academic Excellence have been given approval to advise day students and remove their faculty advising hold for the fall 2020 semester.

Appointments with professional advisors may be conducted via email, phone, zoom, or in person. Arrangements for such appointments should be made directly with the Center for Academic Excellence at advising@salemstate.edu or 978.542.5500.

Given these special circumstances, we are also revising the fall registration period. Registration will now begin on:

  • April 6 for seniors
  • April 7 for juniors
  • April 8 for sophomores
  • April 9 for freshmen

We thank you for your flexibility and patience as we respond to this evolving situation.

Sincerely,

David J. Silva, Ph.D.

Provost and Academic Vice President
