Academic Advising
Every student at the Bertolon School of Business is assigned a dedicated administrative and faculty advisor. Students also have access to specialized SSU advising resources from the Center for Academic Excellence University and Academic Advising.
Within the Bertolon School of Business, Academic Advising for first year and transfer students is handled by the Assistant Dean Director of Student Success. The Assistant Dean helps students make the transition to BSB, develop their initial course and program plans, and provides mentoring and guidance to help them succeed academically and socially.
When students declare their area of business concentration, usually at the end of their sophomore year, they are assigned a faculty advisor within their area of concentration. Faculty advisors meet with their assigned students each semester before students register for the following semester. Advisors review a student’s progress, recommend which courses to take, and provide ongoing career guidance and mentoring support. The goal of academic advising is to ensure students stay on track with their expected graduation timeline and help them prepare to launch their careers.
Peer Mentors
Peer Mentors are business students who help with the advising process. Peer Mentors are knowledgeable about the academic requirements for the various concentrations and are trained to help students choose classes and develop course plans. Peer Mentors work with the Assistant Dean of Student Success to help students create professional resumes and cover letters and identify potential internship opportunities. While not required, students are encouraged to meet and develop a relationship with a Peer Mentor to get a student’s perspective on course sequencing, course modality, and professor’s teaching style. The Peer Mentor office is in the Bertolon School of Business Building, room CC147. Walk-ins are welcomed and virtual meetings can be scheduled through Navigate360.

Peer Tutors
Tutoring is free and available to BSB students for courses in accounting, finance, business analytics and management science. Tutors are juniors and seniors who have earned excellent grades in these courses and who have been trained to help students understand course concepts and meet course requirements. Tutors are available to help, not to complete assignments for students.
