In collaboration with Academic Affairs, the Center for Teaching Innovation offers programming throughout the year, both formal and in-formal, including New Faculty Orientation, workshops, presentations, and grant opportunities.
Faculty Fellows
The Faculty Fellows program puts faculty in leadership roles that support vital initiatives and activities, and contribute to the mission of SSU. Examples of past roles include Faculty Fellow for Scholarship Support, Wellness, Full time and Part Time Faculty Fellows, and Latinx Student Success.
Faculty/Professional Learning Communities
Faculty/Professional Learning Communities (FPLCs) are opportunities for members of the SSU community faculty and professional community to deeply explore a topic with a group of peers. FPLCs meet regularly in the fall and spring semester and allow participants to grow and learn together. Examples of past FPLCs include Veterans in Higher Education, Applying Project Management Strategies to Research and Writing, and Starting with Diversity and Inclusion.
Global Engagement through Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)
The COIL program supports faculty in including international collaborations in their courses. SSU faculty develop a course component with a partner at an international university, and SSU students then connect with peers across the globe as part of their coursework, fostering cultural exchange and collaboration. Past COIL collaborations have taken place with partner universities in Spain, Korea, Mexico, Kyrgyzstan, China and more.
New Faculty Orientation
The CTI runs SSU’s New Faculty Orientation, designed to help new faculty become familiar with ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥â€™s culture, resources and students, and get ready to teach.
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
At the CTI, we support both formal and informal inquiries into teaching and learning, and the impact of different practices on students. Many SSU faculty produce scholarship about teaching and learning, by examining their own practices, systematically asking questions about teaching and learning, and gathering evidence to inform those practices. They share the results of their research in a variety of venues, including within Faculty Learning Communities, conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.
