The Harold T. and Alice M. McCarthy Memorial scholarship is a full, four-year scholarship that includes full tuition, fees, room and board, and books, and is awarded to a talented first-year student majoring in Art + Design with demonstrated financial need.
About the Scholarship
The Harold T. and Alice M. McCarthy Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a talented first-year student majoring in Art + Design with demonstrated financial need. The scholarship includes tuition, fees, room and board, and books.
The scholarship was established by Harold T. McCarthy and Alice M. McCarthy, siblings who grew up in Salem. Alice took her first art class at Salem State at the age of 71. It was here that she witnessed firsthand the determination and hard work of her fellow students. She also came to understand their financial struggles, so she hatched a plan to do something about it.
When Alice passed away in 2011 at the age of 93, her estate included a bequest to ´ºÃÎÖ±²¥ endowing a $1.8-million scholarship.
How to Apply
All entering first-year students who have been accepted into the Art + Design major with demonstrated financial need are eligible for the Harold T. and Alice M. McCarthy Memorial Scholarship. To be considered:
